Science Learning Centre South East
Professional development in science education
The Science Learning Centre South East aims to act as a catalyst for creating inspiring, intellectually stimulating and relevant science education by providing professional development for science teachers and technicians within primary, secondary and further education.
Leading the Way in Science Education
Teachers and technicians can use the Centre to access the latest scientific development and industry practices and to gain support and expertise in delivering science education that gives students the knowledge and understanding they need - both as scientists and citizens of the future.
By offering access to contemporary resources and involvement in contemporary scientific research and development, the Centre aims to develop innovative teaching approaches and creative ways of engaging pupils with differing learning needs in scientific discovery.
Making a difference
Collaboration across the region is an important part of realising this aim. Partners, such as Pfizer Ltd, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Marwell Zoo and INTECH, work with the Centre in order to provide insight into exciting science.
The Centre also uses and builds on the regional ASE network and works with eight schools across the region which act as satellite centres with video-conferencing facilities, allowing teachers to meet locally and share regionally. Teachers receive practical support in using new curriculum materials and teaching strategies.
The Centre is open to all teachers of science and technicians across the SE and will make use of the high-tech facilities at the University of Southampton and satellite centres. |
